Meet Dominique Gillot, Fountaineer

Originally from Burgundy, I grew up in the countryside, an environment where my passion for horses took root. At 13, I decided to try my luck in the world of horse racing, and I was immediately captivated. For about ten years, thanks to a wonderful boss, I was able to ride in races, discovering racetracks in Paris and the provinces. I forged friendships that last to this day.

In 1993, I decided to follow some friends who had moved to Marseille. There, I met my wife, who also worked in the same field, and together we started a family with three wonderful children. I left the world of horse racing, having explored all its possibilities, and found a position at an equestrian center near Frégate. With my equestrian guide diploma in hand, I began organizing horseback rides around the golf course for hotel seminars.

When the equestrian center closed in 2001, I joined the maintenance department. I was offered several management training courses where I worked alongside the golf course superintendent, Jean-Marc. In 2006, he offered me a position on his team and trained me as a waterworks technician. This led me to this profession, which I am still passionate about today.

The role of the waterworks technician is essential for the maintenance of the ever-evolving golf course. It involves managing water, optimizing irrigation using technological tools such as dedicated software, a pumping station, and a weather station. This job demands 200% commitment, with constant attention to water resource management, the maintenance of over 3,000 sprinklers, and administrative tasks. Every decision is important for maintaining the flora and ensuring a high-quality playing experience for golfers. As a golfer myself, I understand the players' expectations.

I was also entrusted with additional responsibilities, such as personnel management. Today, I can share the experience I've gained over the past 20 years and dedicate myself to managing a motivated team where mutual support and respect are paramount. I hope that Frégate's success will continue for years to come.
